Valeda House and EICS

Elk Island Catholic Schools is proud to announce our adoption of Valeda House.  Valeda House is a ministry of Catholic Social Services serving as a home to up to six young women, who either have young children or are expecting.  In addition to being a home for these women for up to six months, Valeda House offers programs and support to allow these mothers to find long term housing and to address the underlying issues that may be associated with homelessness.  The call to support Valeda House, as well as to educate and create awareness, has been made.  Our Elk Island Catholic School family has answered the challenge of supporting and engaging in this ministry, which has served women from all or our communities, and which runs entirely on donated support.

Shoe Roundup Starts!

Oct 16th to 20th Reduce your footprint!  Give your old shoes new life!

Waste Reduction Week is October 16th to 22nd and to celebrate, we are participating in the Strathcona County Shoe Drive!

  • Shoes can be donated in any state of wear but must be TIED OR BOUND TOGETHER WITH ELASTICS.
  • Student will receive an entry for a chance to win prizes with each shoe donation.

With this shoe drive our community will benefit directly as we rehome some shoes locally that are in excellent condition.  The remaining shoes will be sent to Sole4Souls, a not for profit group in Ontario that helps developing countries build their economies while diverting waste from the landfill at the same time.

Be sure to clean out your closets of those old unworn shoes and send them in with your child.
